Tea Party’s embrace of Sarah Palin proves it is off its rocker (and vice versa)

The political agenda put forth by a local organizer in Washington DC was not in alignment with our message.  We feel disheartened that some would seek to hijack the narrative for political gain. The core principle is about all Americans honoring Veterans in a peaceful and apolitical manner.  Mr. Cruz, Ms. Palin and some attendees, including political parties may have not been aware of the goals of the marches which took place in over 60+ rallies across the nation.

This was on the website for “Million Vet March on the Memorials,” which took place on October 13 throughout the country.  One support group, which described itself as “all military brats, current and former military spouses and some veterans” was quoted  “We cannot express how utterly disappointed we were that our Greatest Generation were being used as political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis. This should never be the case.” It later states that “We hope that you will join us in our peaceful protest against anti-American policies.”

Who could those “anti-American” elements be? According to the statement at the top, who else but Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz and their Tea Party sponsors, making utter fools of themselves and making mock of the function. Palin could be heard pathetically and thoughtlessly attempting to shout over jeers from vets angry that Palin would have the temerity to “speak” for them when most people blamed the Republicans and the Tea Party for the government shutdown that closed, among a lot of other things, the war memorials. One onlooker even called her an “idiot” loud enough to prompt Cruz and Palin to look his way.  I wonder if she could ever “get” the message.

The other day on Fox News Palin was asked by Megyn Kelly (the kind of “bubble-headed bleach-blonde” Don Henley sang about in “Dirty Laundry”) to “comment” on the assertion by the president that the country had taken a “hit” internationally because of the unreasoning (my word) intransigence of the Republicans during the government shutdown. She was expecting “reason” out of the mind of Palin? Of course not; she was expecting Palin to say all the stupid things she wished she could without jeopardizing Fox News’ “fair and balanced” hokum. Note that a simple reading of the following does not do “justice” to Palin; her delivery was so infused with blind hatred, tripping over every word, that you were certain she had forgotten to take her medication before she went on the air:

“I think that remark is one of his more out of touch remarks that we've heard in recent days. No, what emboldened our enemies and what empowered competitors was his promise to fundamentally transform America from being a solvent, free, exceptional country into something that we're not going to recognize…Also, what has emboldened enemies is he doubling of our debt since he's been elected, putting us on a path towards bankruptcy and then locking up pipe lines and resources that will result in us being more reliant on foreign imports for energy…And then, of course, he, having left behind his administration, left behind our brave men in Benghazi to be murdered. Then, of course, there is Syria where he promised to bomb Syria because in that civil war, Syria was going to bomb Syria, and then we never heard another word again about his threat to bomb in a foreign civil war…And then, of course, most recently, Megyn, he is using our military, those who would fight against our enemies, our military, our vets, shutting down their memorials and holding them hostage in terms of budget deals, threatening to withhold paychecks for our brave men and women”—Palin apparently still wasn’t “getting” the message.

At this point Kelly tried to steer Palin back to lucidity, without success. Palin claimed that “her side” was more “energized” than ever. “Common sense” is the conservative’s friend, expectorated Palin, and then she went on to threaten any Republican who exhibits any evidence of that with being “primaried,” or else “we’re going down.” This only goes to show that Palin and the Tea Party are alien beings from an antimatter universe.

It is difficult to discern why anyone—Tea Partiers included—would embarrass themselves by having anything to do with Palin and the misshapen phrasings drooling out of her mouth. But as they say, any publicity is good publicity—except in this case, it’s all good
 for the other side.
