Different standard for lesbian pedophiles?

Alright, this isn’t a “classic” case of pedophilia, where the perpetrator is at least 20 years older than the victim. But the case of Floridian Kaitlyn Hunt, 19, who apparently as a senior in high school had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old female “classmate” does suggest that there are some irregularities caused by the current political climate that makes any criticism of the gay/lesbian community subject to accusations of discrimination. Hunt claims that she didn’t think there was anything “wrong” with having sex—technically as an adult—with another girl just barely entering puberty. Hunt was alleged to have sent the victim “thousands” of nude images of herself—and then she and her mother threatened the girl after Hunt’s arrest if she didn’t delete the images. Hunt also claims that the sexual encounters were “consensual.” Since when did that make any difference—especially in male/female relationships?

Hunt should have been charged with statutory rape and forced to register as a sex offender. Neither of those occurred. Instead, she was allowed to “negotiate” with gutless prosecutors, and she eventually “agreed” to plead guilty to just two counts of battery and one count of “contributing to the dependency of a child.” Because she was so good to do so instead of potentially bringing greater light to a sordid tale in court, Hunt will not have to serve further time in jail, just three years of probation and no contact with her former “lover.” There is apparently no prohibition of meeting other underage girls for the same purpose—so long as they or their parents don’t file a complaint against her. I suppose at this point I would be remiss not to note  that "hetero" female pedophiles also frequently seem to be given the "benefit of the doubt" by the court system.

Hunt has since given interviews in which she essentially blames the victim for all the bad publicity she has received, feeling “betrayed.” Hunt clearly has no moral sense of right or wrong in the matter, and why should she? Other than a few months of inconvenience, no one need be the wiser about her, according to the law. Even less surprising is the fact that gay/lesbian activists have been portraying Hunt herself as a "victim" and some sort of heroic "icon" to the "cause." I wonder if anyone really wants to know what exactly that "cause" is.

  1. This story literally makes me sick to my stomach... I wonder if she raped a 2 year old if she'd get in any trouble.

  2. Well, I suppose it depends on where the political winds are blowing. Even in the Catholic priest scandals and the Jerry Sandusky case, people are afraid of using the "g" or "h"-word.
