Some people just don’t know when
to quit; they just go on and on and on until people just pass them by as they
would some street corner barker in the beginning phases of dementia. Such are
Hillary Clinton never-say-die types, like feminist comedian Sandra Bernhard,
who recently tried to shame women who voted for Donald Trump by claiming they did
so because they can’t think for themselves, and because they are weak and subservient
to their Trump-worshipping husbands, so they just tow the line. People like Bernhard simply do not wish to
believe that the 53 percent of white women voted for Trump were motivated by
the same racial and white nationalist impulses as their men, “history” be
damned.
Unfortunately there are people
like Roseanne Barr, who for some reason Bernhard believes is one of those women.
Forget the bullshit explanation for voting for Trump that her character gave on
her rebooted sitcom; in a recent New York
Times interview, she was repeatedly flummoxed by the reporter’s questions
about the hypocrisy of supporting a man who despite his “populist” rhetoric was
as anti-blue collar labor rights as any of his super-rich kin. But when it came
to what really motivated her to vote
for Trump, the only hypocrisy to be found was in the willful ignorance of facts:
Well, I think working-class people were pissed off about Clinton and
NAFTA, so let me start there. That’s what broke all the unions and we lost all
our jobs, so I think that is a large part of why they voted for Trump because
they didn’t want to see it continue, where our jobs are shipped away. So, it is
more, why did people support shipping our jobs away?
The ignorance in evidence in this
might not be obvious to some people, so I will try to enlighten them. First
off, just go to a typical retail apparel or electronics store, and check the
“Made in” label to see how much of that stuff is from Mexico or Canada. What
you find in fact is the true source of supposed job losses. On the other hand,
the economy is changing its focus, which is why despite the existence of NAFTA
(which actually serves as a bulwark against further encroachment by China
economic hegemony), this country is currently seeing historic lows in
unemployment rates, and is something that Trump can’t take credit for. The
stupidity of Trump and his supporters like Barr in regard to NAFTA is that the
U.S. has a far, far larger market for consumer goods than Mexico and Canada
combined; in fact Mexicans spend a far higher percentage of their income on
U.S.-made goods than vice-versa.
Meanwhile, it is ironically in the most rabidly anti-Hispanic immigrant southern states that are currently facing serious labor shortfalls in agriculture and construction (which is why Sen. Lindsey Graham has insisted that those occupations have as much "merit" as "tech" jobs). As far as unions are concerned, union busting was a matter of policy decades before there was even was a NAFTA, with the support of corporate-owned Republican lawmakers. Ronald Reagan had been essentially forced out of his SAG leadership for colluding with film studio executives long before his union-busting activities as president.

So you may ask why people like
Barr are so animated by subjects like NAFTA. Do we really need to ask that
question? NAFTA and Mexico are locked together in Trump supporters’ minds; it
is a racial “thing.” Anti-Mexico and Mexican-hate mania, something that Trump
has consistently inflamed with claims both outrageously unfair and racist,
seems to be the most important “issue” on the minds of his “core” supporters,
as we can gather from Trump’s post-Easter tweet rantings. Barr went on to claim
that illegal immigrants are receiving benefits “that our own veterans don’t
get.” This is just another fallacious extremist talking point that ignorant
bigots willingly receive as “fact” in an attempt to justify their hate. Sure,
Barr’s show now as in the past “celebrates” feminism and the LGBT community for
reasons we may suspect by just looking at her, but the hypocrisy of “proving”
she isn’t a racist by including a black girl in the cast is just too much. The
black mother of the child (the wife of her TV son) is overseas in the military,
so Barr’s Trump-loving character is spared the probability of being forced to
expose more of her hypocrisy if a black adult character expects her to
“explain” and “justify” Trump’s many racist comments. Would Barr parrot Trump’s
claim that he is the “least racist person” she would ever meet? Go ahead and
wait for the flood of calls to boycott the show.
Of course you don’t have to be
uneducated to support Trump. The Huffington
Post recently exposed an unmarried white female Florida teacher at a nearly
all-white middle school who had decidedly “independent” views on race:
Dayanna
Volitich, a 25-year-old social studies teacher at Crystal River Middle School
in Florida, has been secretly hosting the white nationalist podcast
“Unapologetic” under the pseudonym “Tiana Dalichov” and bragging about teaching
her views in a public school, HuffPost has discovered.
In her most
recent podcast on Feb. 26, a guest railed against diversity in schools,
dismissing the idea that “a kid from Nigeria and a kid who came from Sweden are
supposed to learn exactly the same” and have the “same IQ.” Volitich
enthusiastically agreed with the guest, and went on to argue that “science” has
proven that certain races are smarter than others.
In the same
episode, Volitich boasted about bringing her white nationalist beliefs into the
classroom and hiding her ideology from administrators. She said that when
parents complained to the school’s principal about how she is injecting
political bias into the classroom, Volitich lied to the principal and said it
was not true.
“She
believed me and backed off,” she said.
Volitich
also agreed with her guest’s assertion that more white supremacists need to
infiltrate public schools and become teachers. “They don’t have to be vocal
about their views, but get in there!” her guest said. “Be more covert and
just start taking over those places.”
HuffPost also included in its story a clip from a podcast by this
teacher of impressionable young white kids. She was speaking with another “educated”
white female, and it is fair to say that their discussion didn’t sound like
anyone was “forcing” them to state their beliefs. They are just flat-out white
supremacists, no “excuses” necessary; there are millions of Ann Coulter and
Laura Ingraham clones out there—I know, I have had to tolerate the existence of
some of them at uncomfortably close quarters. After the story broke, the school
that employed Voltich felt obligated to terminate her employment, literally
removing her during the middle of a class. I think it is a question of morality
and ethics when a teacher thinks it is her “job” to go around telling kids that
they are either “smarter” or “stupider” than other kids.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is
back on the stump, this time accusing fellow Democrats of “sexism,” since in
the least “hurtful” way they are attempting to convince her to just “go away”
and let them try to win the next election; the party doesn’t need that another William
Jennings Bryan and Adlai Stevenson hanging on their necks like an albatross (like
many see Nancy Pelosi as being as well). Clinton had her chance; as others have
pointed out, Al Gore and John Kerry didn’t go on tour after their defeats
making a million dollars a speech whining to captive audiences in a similar
state of denial of why she lost against the worst major party presidential
candidate in history—mainly because she was the next worst. Hillary, your
fanatical “base” may be just as fanatical as Trump’s, but it is also smaller,
and getting smaller along with your credibility (it is a distinct turn-off for
male voters when they keep hearing you say that they are all “sexists”—especially
those who actually voted for you). Please just shut-up and go away; few people
really “liked” you to begin with (but they did like your husband), and they
just felt that you were forced on them by the media and a Democratic
establishment that felt that it “owed” your “entitled” self.
So Earth-to-the deniers: Roseanne
Barr—who inexplicably went from Israel-is-Nazi Germany to Zionist extremist merely
because a black president supposedly
wasn’t “friendly” enough to Jewish people like herself (but she has had four
non-Jewish husbands)—is your typical Trump supporter, and a complete hypocrite
to boot. While Trump has degraded black football players in front of racist
white audiences, Barr was the person who committed probably the most
insulting-to-the-flag display at a sporting event ever, degrading the National
Anthem at that infamous Dodgers’ game back in the 1990. There are YouTubes of
her “singing” it, so go check it out; no one thought it was “funny” then, and
you have to wonder about anyone who thinks it is “funny” today. And people like
Bernhard thinks Barr has any respect for what anyone thinks she should “think,”
let alone men?
