As we are all aware by now, Typhoon Haiyan that devastated
the Philippines was by many accounts the biggest storm in Earth’s history--or
at least the biggest that modern scientific instruments have measured, with
winds topping 170 mph (typhoons and hurricanes are the same type of weather
phenomena, just referred to by a different name in different parts of the
world). It is also the misfortune of the victims that there are some people in
this world who actually see this as a “good” thing, much as a few bigots saw
the devastation of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina as an “act of God” cleaning
house.
And so it was that a Canadian who calls herself “Jax Cote”
decided to put her face and thoughts on a Facebook page contributed by people
who sympathized with the plight of the victims. Cote identified herself as a
private elementary school teacher in British Columbia; but her flaccid face and
low-cut T-shirt makes her look more like your typical po-white trailer trash.
So, what did she have to “add” to the conversation?
“so this means the world is getting rid a whole wack of
Phillipino’s about time God cleaned house!”
That’s Filipinos—but
then again she only claims to teach elementary school kids. The rest of it is
your typical self-hating rubbish by a pathetic individual who believes that
hating on other groups “elevates” her pathetic life. Her real problem is that
she feels she is looked down upon by more educated, successful white persons. Such
people act out their discontent in other ways, of course; one person who claims
to have heard about her states that he has been told that Cote is not a teacher at all, and has a reputation
as a “troublemaker” by local police and landlords.
It shouldn’t be surprising that racism is not something that
just infects white folks, but Asians as well—particularly those of lighter
skin, like the Japanese, Koreans and Chinese. We might recall that many Chinese
were “shocked” that Barack Obama was elected president in 2008—because most
thought that blacks in American only did menial labor, like cleaning toilets. That
is also what some people in Asia believe is the Filipinos lot in life. We heard
about this in another recent “incident” involving ugly racial attitudes, this
time by a woman named Devina DeDiva (or so she called herself) who apparently
lives in Singapore but of uncertain ethnicity. After Megan Young (who is
half-Filipino and half-white) won Miss World, DeDiva had this to say on
Facebook:
“They r poor, smelly from cleaning toilets and uneducated”
“What a joke those people cleaning our toilets won Miss
World”
This is the world we live in. In Australia, Aborigines are
referred to by the “N” word by the less politically-correct types. Heck, when
I’m out walking in the pouring rain or freezing cold, some people only see a
“criminal” who might rob them in their heated cars, instead of someone who
might be uncomfortable just a little bit.
